Build habits to stay safe by taking part in the 9 P.M. Routine

Joining other police departments across the Country, the Miami-Dade Police Department (MDPD) is asking its community to start the 9 P.M. Routine. The goal is for residents and visitors alike to create a habit or “routine” each evening to remove valuables from vehicles, ensure vehicle doors and trunks are locked, lock home doors and gates, and turn on exterior lights, all in an effort to prevent criminal activity.

Early responses from the community have been largely positive and have spurred discussion on the important topic of crime prevention.

“One of our mottos is ‘crime prevention starts with you’, and the 9 P.M. Routine is just one easy way that our community can get involved,” commented Miami-Dade Police Major Hector Llevat. “Most of us are on social media today, and a quick reminder to secure your valuables can make a world of difference in our busy lives and the fight against crime.”

In line with MDPD’s mission to promote a safe and secure environment, free from crime and the fear of crime, the 9 P.M. Routine is intended to make things harder for criminals, raise awareness, and create safer habits. MDPD’s Social Media Team will be promoting the campaign through its social media channels utilizing the hashtags #9pmRoutine and #LockItOrLoseIt

Please join us in this initiative and help spread the word to our community. Be sure to follow MDPD across social media with the handle @MiamiDadePd for up-to-date information.
