Whether you are working on your dream home renovation, starting or expanding a small business or trying to correct a building violation, the Small Business and Homeowner Assistance Team helps you to navigate the permitting process at no additional cost.
Through personalized, step-by-step support, you will learn:
- If a permit is required and if so, the type of permit specific to your project or business
- The paperwork and other requirements needed for a building permit
- Permit fee information
- How to complete the forms, submit the application and receive status updates
Bring the following to your first visit:
- If applicable, a copy of the notice of any violations for beginning or completing a project without a permit
- If available, existing plans for your home or business showing floor layout; or plans for proposed work from an architect or engineer
- If available, a survey or site plan for the property
- Proof of ownership of the property (warranty deed or tax receipt); or a copy of the lease if a small business
Timeframe to obtain a permit:
- The time it takes to obtain a permit depends on the type of work being done. The initial review of the submitted application and plans takes about three to four days
- Return visits to the team may be necessary to address corrections to drawings, make required changes and to provide additional required information
