Congressman Carlos Gimenez Sends Letter to Sec. Austin, Sec. Blinken on Communist China’s Base in Castro’s Cuba

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Carlos A. Giménez sent a letter to Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin and Secretary of State Antony Blinken expressing severe concerns over reports confirming that the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and the murderous Castro regime in Cuba have agreed to establish a spy base just 90 miles from American shores. Communist China is proactively undermining the United States across the Western Hemisphere and Congressman Giménez strongly urges the Biden Administration and the State Department to build a robust strategy to counter the CCP’s influence in our Hemisphere.

As the Representative for America’s Southernmost district, which includes the entirety of the Florida Keys, this espionage base poses a direct threat to his constituents and millions of Americans across the nation.

“Communist China is proactively undermining the United States across the Western Hemisphere and I urge this Administration to build a robust, comprehensive, and expedient strategy to counter the CCP’s malign influence with neighboring states. I urge the Administration to condemn this blatant threat to our national security interests, apply the full weight of U.S. sanctions as established in the LIBERTAD Act, and prevent efforts from anti-American adversaries from establishing a base to conduct espionage, cyberattacks, or other threats to the homeland – only minutes away from the mainland United States,” the letter stated.
