If youโre a contractor working in Miami-Dade County under a specialty license, House Bill 1383 may affect the way you acquire a license in Miami-Dade County.
Previously, HB735, passed by the Florida legislature, wouldโve preempted several construction trades from being licensed by Miami-Dade County, effective July 1, 2023. However, HB1383 extends this deadline to July 1, 2024.

On July 1, 2024, your alternative to be licensed may be to apply with Miami-Dade or the State of Florida for a license containing your scope of work. ย In the meantime, you may continue to apply for these licenses locally or renew your current licenseโall which would be valid through June 30, 2024. ย Preempted licenses will no longer be offered altogether after that date, but note that you may still need to apply for any required building permits for a particular job, either with RERโs Building Division or with your corresponding local municipality.
