Miami-Dade hosted a summit on affordable housing

Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava and the Department of Public Housing and Community Development hosted the Building Blocks Housing Summit to find solutions to the housing affordability crisis currently affecting county residents.

During the summit, the Mayor announced the following actions:

  • The Department of Public Housing and Community Development and The University of Miami Office of Civic and Community Engagement partnered to create the Housing Affordability Tracker. The tool monitors progress toward the Mayor’s ambitious goal of 18,000 new and rehabilitated affordable/workforce housing units. These units, all intended to be in financial closing by the end of 2023, are a crucial component of Mayor Cava’s Building Blocks for Housing Affordability Program.
  • A partnership with the Miami-Dade County School Board to develop new workforce housing projects at three School Board underused properties will generate hundreds of additional workforce housing units for teachers.
  • A commitment of up to $100 million from the Healthy Housing Foundation to invest in affordable housing in Miami-Dade is part of the Mayor’s efforts to convene funding partners and bring significant new investment to build affordable housing in our community. $5 million will go towards Mayor Levine Cava’s recently launched Building Blocks Fund – increasing the funds available to $75 million to finance the development and preservation of affordable and workforce housing in Miami-Dade County.
