Police traffic tickets have gone digital

The Miami-Dade Police Department has rolled out an eCitation system that allows an officer to file digital traffic tickets directly from the patrol car laptop to the courts. The officer can then print out the ticket and hand it to the driver.

The eCitation system improves accuracy and efficiency, providing citizens with a clearer, more legible traffic ticket and cutting roadside time in half. Also, fines can be paid more quickly, as the citation will be posted online within 24 hours.

After receiving the ticket, the driver has 30 days to pay the fine or to let the court know that they intend to fight the charge.
